The thrilling trailer for “Whalefall,” a survival drama featuring Austin Abrams, has made its debut. Adapted from Daniel Kraus’ well-regarded novel, the film depicts the harrowing story of a young man who becomes trapped inside a gigantic sperm whale, with only a limited oxygen supply to sustain him. This gripping narrative is brought to audiences by 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment, with the Indian theatrical release set for October 16.

Austin Abrams takes on the role of Jay Gardiner, a young diver grappling with the loss of his father, portrayed by Josh Brolin. Driven by the need for closure, Jay ventures to California’s Central Coast to dive in search of his father’s remains. However, his quest spirals into a nightmare when he is swallowed whole by a colossal sperm whale.

Inside the whale, Jay faces a race against time with only about an hour of oxygen. To survive, he must harness his instincts and recall the wisdom imparted by his father, as he desperately searches for an escape. The film weaves together the tension of survival with the poignant exploration of Jay’s bond with his late father.

Director Brian Duffield, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kraus, has crafted a visually immersive experience by filming inside a whale set created on a sound stage in Studio City, California. The film’s cast includes notable names such as Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd, alongside Abrams and Brolin.

“Whalefall” offers a fresh twist on the classic survival tale, blending an underwater setting with a narrative of human resilience in the face of an inescapable predicament. With its unique premise and emotional depth, the film is poised to captivate audiences when it arrives in Indian cinemas on October 16.
