Saudi Arabia and Greece have committed to enhancing their cooperation in energy, investment, digital connectivity, and security, as highlighted during recent discussions in Riyadh between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The meeting, marking a century of diplomatic relations, underscored the leaders’ shared focus on securing international shipping routes and ensuring steady energy supplies against the backdrop of concerns over attacks on energy infrastructure.

Both nations acknowledged the critical role of energy cooperation, agreeing to expedite the development of a planned electricity interconnection project aimed at facilitating power exchanges between Saudi Arabia and Europe via Greece. Additionally, they explored opportunities for exporting clean hydrogen from Saudi Arabia to Greece and other European Union markets, along with potential investments in renewable energy, conventional energy, and petrochemicals.

The discussions also reinforced the economic ties between the two countries, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $1.7 billion in 2025. Both parties expressed a mutual interest in expanding collaborations across infrastructure, construction, logistics, and technology sectors. In the digital domain, progress on the EMC submarine cable project, which aims to bolster communications between East and West, was welcomed by both sides, who pledged to adhere to the project’s timeline.

Saudi Arabia invited Greek companies to invest in its major initiatives, such as the Riyadh Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, while Greece encouraged Saudi investors to explore prospects in transport, energy, logistics, digital infrastructure, and advanced technologies. Defense and security cooperation were also focal points, with both countries agreeing to work on counterterrorism, cybersecurity, intelligence sharing, and professional training.

The leaders reiterated their commitment to international climate agreements and supported joint efforts in carbon management, artificial intelligence, space technology, healthcare, education, tourism, and culture. These discussions build on a strategic partnership council established in 2022, reflecting the growing significance of Saudi-Greek relations in enhancing energy security, boosting international trade, and fostering regional connectivity.
