FREELANDER is ushering in a new chapter as the automotive landscape shifts from mere transportation to a realm enriched by intelligent technology and connected experiences. With its roots tracing back to the launch of the original Land Rover Freelander in 1997, which combined all-terrain capability with passenger comfort, FREELANDER is now redefining itself as a premium intelligent mobility brand. The brand’s evolution was showcased at the IBS (Chery International Business Summit), marking its transition into a British premium intelligent all-terrain brand, leveraging a partnership between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery.
Originally a trailblazer in the SUV market, the Land Rover Freelander became Europe’s best-selling SUV from 1997 to 2002, capturing the spirit of freedom and exploration. Now, FREELANDER is adapting to the modern driver’s demand for vehicles that seamlessly integrate digital ecosystems, comfort, and adaptability for both urban and outdoor adventures. Over the next five years, the company plans to roll out six new SUV models and expand its presence to over 90 countries with more than 1,100 touchpoints globally. The new models are engineered on a global architecture, accommodating various driving specifications for international markets.
The Middle East has been identified as FREELANDER’s first international strategic market, underscoring the region’s growing appetite for intelligent mobility technologies within the premium automotive segment. FREELANDER’s development strategy is anchored on three core principles: British Craftsmanship, Smart Confidence, and All-Terrain Freedom. The newly unveiled FREELANDER 8 exemplifies this strategy with features such as panoramic digital displays, intelligent cockpit technologies, immersive interaction systems, and advanced second-row seating designed for enhanced comfort and connectivity.
Equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, the FREELANDER 8 supports up to eight displays, enabling responsive and immersive interactions. It also incorporates L2+ advanced driver assistance systems and Advanced VPD functionality in select markets, facilitating autonomous parking and smartphone-based vehicle retrieval. The vehicle maintains its all-terrain prowess through the i-ATS Intelligent All-Terrain System, which offers nine terrain modes and advanced technologies like dual-chamber air suspension and intelligent terrain management systems.
FREELANDER’s commitment to innovation was further highlighted by the introduction of the AiMOGA robot initiative, emphasizing the integration of artificial intelligence in mobility ecosystems. Manufacturing operations are centered at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Intelligent Manufacturing Base, which is Jaguar Land Rover’s first comprehensive manufacturing facility outside the UK, utilizing over 1,100 robotic operations to ensure consistency and quality. This transformation mirrors broader industry trends towards connected technologies and adaptable transportation solutions, setting FREELANDER on a path for global expansion and intelligent mobility leadership.
