This comes amid global concerns over virus outbreaks, including Ebola and hantavirus. Saudi health officials have assured that their surveillance and emergency response systems are on high alert to ensure the safety and well-being of attendees during this significant religious event.
With recent Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa and growing fears regarding hantavirus infections, Saudi authorities have intensified travel monitoring and health checks for those arriving from specific countries. This includes travelers from Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The precautions aim to mitigate any potential health risks associated with the influx of international visitors participating in the pilgrimage.
As pilgrims begin to arrive in Makkah, many have already started visiting key religious sites, such as the Grand Mosque, Jabal Al Nour, and the hills of Safa and Marwa, ahead of the official start of Hajj. Saudi Arabia has also bolstered security measures at airports and along major pilgrimage routes in response to heightened regional tensions, including concerns over recent drone attacks involving Iran and Gulf countries.
To further ensure the safety and comfort of the pilgrims, officials have expanded shaded walkways to protect worshippers from the extreme summer temperatures typical of the region. Additionally, at least 34 medical units have been strategically placed near major holy sites to provide immediate healthcare support if needed.
The Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a religious duty that Muslims are required to fulfill at least once in their lifetime if they are physically and financially capable. As preparations continue, Saudi Arabia remains focused on maintaining the safety and security of all participants during this pivotal religious event.
