Saudi Arabia has expressed strong approval of a recent United Nations Security Council statement that condemns the escalating Houthi attacks against the Kingdom. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the Kingdom’s right under international law to defend its territory, citizens, and residents, highlighting the importance of the Security Council’s solidarity and condemnation of attacks targeting civilians, airports, and critical infrastructure.

The Security Council’s statement specifically denounced the Houthi attacks on the King Khalid International Airport on October 10 and 11, which reportedly resulted in deaths and injuries. Additionally, attacks on other Saudi airports and facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco were condemned. The Council members offered condolences to the victims’ families and urged the Houthis to cease military escalation and attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Emphasizing the need for stronger international cooperation, the Security Council called for the full implementation of Resolution 2216, adopted in 2015, and subsequent resolutions. The Council stressed the importance of preventing weapons, military equipment, funding, training, and technical assistance from reaching the Houthis, advocating for collaboration with Yemen’s internationally recognized government.

The Security Council also condemned Houthi attacks and threats against commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait, underlining the necessity of protecting vessels, their crews, and international maritime navigation. The Council reaffirmed its support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government and the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Additionally, the Security Council reiterated its backing for UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg and diplomatic efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement in Yemen. This statement reflects the ongoing international concern and involvement in addressing the conflict in Yemen and its regional impact.
