Saudi Arabia and Serbia are strengthening their economic and diplomatic ties, aiming to forge closer partnerships across sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, food industries, and trade. Recent discussions between the two nations have focused on collaborative energy projects, advancements in information and communications technology, and initiatives in agriculture. Both countries are actively seeking to enhance the presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market, while also encouraging increased Saudi investment in Serbia.
In a significant diplomatic move, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric met in Belgrade to sign an agreement that removes visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This decision is expected to streamline official visits and exchanges between the two nations, further facilitating their growing partnership.
Trade relations between Saudi Arabia and Serbia have witnessed substantial growth, with bilateral trade reaching $121 million in 2025—an almost ninefold increase since 2012. The upward trend continued in the first half of 2026, as trade between the two countries surged to $130.4 million, marking a 152% rise compared to the same period in the previous year.
Looking ahead, the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are anticipated to offer additional avenues for investment, business collaborations, and the exchange of expertise. Saudi Arabia has already confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic development, culture, innovation, and investment opportunities.
Additionally, both nations are exploring joint ventures in science and technology, with Serbia set to showcase its offerings at the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, featuring more than 50 Serbian companies. This initiative underscores the growing collaboration and shared ambitions between Saudi Arabia and Serbia in various sectors.
